Resurfacing of roads in Elsies River

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises residents, road users, businesses and the broader public in Avon and Leonsdale of the upcoming roadworks in the area.
The project will cover the following roads:
• Bowler Street
• 12th Avenue
• 11th Avenue
• 9th Avenue
• Busby Street
• Nazareth House Close
• Homberg Street
• Helmut Street
• Avondale Road
• Boater Close
• 18th Street
• 13th Street
• 21st Street
• Norwood Road
• Beret Road
• 26th Street
• Talana Close
• Crown Road
• Coronet Court
• Cozzier Close
• Baartman Street
• Fester Avenue
The roadworks are planned to take place from Thursday, 19 October 2023 until Friday, 15 December 2023, between 07:30 and 17:00, Monday to Friday, and night work if required will be done between 19:00 and 06:00. Work may also be scheduled over weekends should the need arise.
No roads are expected to be closed although other traffic accommodation methods may be used to regulate traffic around the work area.
'Congestion is expected in this section of Elsies River over the next two months and we recommend that road users be cautious while work is under way. We thank residents for their patience and cooperation and ask that they be vigilant in and around the roadworks area, look out for uneven road surfaces and consider alternative routes during this time,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The existing road surface will be milled and removed. The road will then be replaced with a new layer of asphalt. All road markings removed during the process will be reinstated.
Resurfacing maintenance on existing roads forms part of the City of Cape Town road maintenance system. Regular maintenance prolongs the longevity of the City's road network. The benefit of resurfacing roads includes improved road safety conditions and commuting quality as well as decreased vehicle user costs.
